Storyboard Text

  • William T. Sherman led troops in a 60 mile path through Georgia where they destroyed many objects and property that the locals own to show how horrible the war was.
  • Ulysses S. Grant was a famous general for the Union army during the Civil War. He participated in the battles of Shiloh and Vicksburg and the Surrender at Appomattox. Eventually, he became the 18th president of the United States.
  • George B. McClellan was a general in the Union army who was part of the battle of Anteitam (the single bloodiest day of war). He knew Lee's plans during this battle but chose to do nothing with this kowledge until too late.

  • Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson was a confederate general who defeated the union troops in the Battle of Bull Run which proved that the confederacy was determined.
  • Robert E. Lee was a confederate general who participated in many famous battles such as Gettysburg, Vicksburg, and Anteitam. Eventually he surrendered the Confederate army to General Ulysses S. Grant at the Appomattox Court House which officially ended the war.

  • Robert Gould Shaw led the infamous 54th Massachusetts Regiment. This was an regiment consisting of all African American troops which became famous when they led the attack on Fort Wagner.
