So he reaches out to feel this red dress an' the girl lets out a squawk, and that gets Lennie all mixed up, and he holds on 'cause that's the only thing he can think to do.
Lennie vs. Society
The guys in Weed start a party out to lynch Lennie. So we sit in a irrigation ditch under water all the rest of that day. Got on’y our heads sticking outa water, an’ up under the grass that sticks out from the side of the ditch.
He ain’t mean, I can tell a mean guy a mile off.
Curley vs. his wife
Well, you been askin’ me too often. I’m gettin’ God damn sick of it. If you can’t look after your own God damn wife, what you expect me to do about it? You lay offa me.
I’m jus’ tryin’ to tell you I didn’t mean nothing, I jus’ thought you might of saw her.
Lennie has problems with himself because he always gets himself into trouble and usually these problems are hard to solve. Like when he touched the girls dress, he didn't mean to but from his own actions he made himself look bad.
Society doesn't understand Lennie's condition and thinks he is a bad person for touching the woman's dress. They don't understand that he didn't mean to start trouble so when a search party goes out for him, it explains why he is against society.
Curley is having issues with his wife, specifically not knowing where she is at times. So instead he always asks the guys where she is which makes them aggravated. He also know that she has "the eye" which means she checks out other men from time to time. Since there are a ton of men working at the farm, this makes their relationship sort of toxic.
