"You think you're too good for us, just because you finished highschool and have a job in town!"
"Would you like to join, Los Indios?"
"One ticket Please."
Uncle Luis was frustrated that Papa had decided to move his family into town and away from the Los Rafas, where they grew up. Uncle Luis felt like Papa thought hewas to good for Los Rafas, bu tin reality he just wanted what was best for his family. Grandma was tired of the arguing and piped in to say that Papa was a grown man and had the right to do what was best for his family.
"What do you think you're doing Gringo?"
Already the Narrator faces trouble with a gang of students at recess. They begin harassing him and engage in a fight, they are shocked when the narrator fights back. Chango, the gang's leader is surprised by his skills and invites him to join the Los Indios.
"It would be nice for the boys to go together!"
The boys spend their weekends watching their favorite action movies at the local theater. The Los Indios were a sly gang, they sent the narrator in to buy one ticket then once in the theater he would create a distraction so the gang could enter the theater for free. Being young boys they after would tease the theater's owner throughout the movie to get a good laugh.
"What is he doing here?"
"This is Denver, he's an albino Indian from Oklahoma. He's coming to the movies with us!"
After many days spent trying to catch teh narrators new neighbor who they referred to as John Wayne, the Narrator and Chango were finally successful, the cornered john wayne and gave him a beating. They let him escape after getting in a few good punches.
The Narrator learns that John Wayne is actually his next door neighbor and his name is Denver. The two boys are having a conversation in their backyards when their mothers come outside. The narrator's mother invites Denver to go to the movies with her son and the Los Indios, neither of the boys is excited about this but they go along with it to please their mothers.
"I understand there's a nice movie in town, where the boys go Saturday afternoon?"
On Saturday all the boys met up to go the movies, Immediately Chango questions why Denver is coming to the movies. The narrator stands up for Denver as he once was in his position and lies and says he's an albino Indian so the rest of the boys will accept him. They all go to the movies and the Narrator feels happy with himself for bringing the Los Indios and Denver together.
