Early Life Nelson Mandela was born in South Africa, in 1918. He became a lawyer and a courageous leader who fought against apartheid. Mandela was arrested because he was seen as a dangerous man to racist politicians.
Life in Prison Madiba was held in prison(Robben Island) for 27 years! He was finally released in 1991, due to the pressure on the government. Mandela is seen as a spiritual leader and a symbol of anti-apartheid.
LIFE AFTER RELEASE FROM PRISON In 1993, Mandela and the president of South Africa won the Nobel Peace Prize together, alongside with the end of apartheid.
SOUTH AFRICA’S MULTI-RACIAL ELECTIONS Mandela became the president of South Africa in April 1994 - South Africa’s first multi-racial parliamentary election in history.
