Storyboard Text

  • OMG! The captain told me to measure if the star is moving away or towards us. How do I do that? With a ruler?
  • Angelo, are you really that naive?
  • What?? Am I wrong or something?
  • You are nowhere close to the right answer. And we are on a spaceship right now. You should know this!
  • I'm sorry for asking a stupid question. Tell me what to do!
  • First of all, we measure if something is is moving towards or away from us by the Doppler effect.
  • Ummm, so how does the Doppler effect do this then?
  • This process uses compact blue wavelengths to show if the object is moving towards us and uses long, red wavelengths to show if it is moving away from us.
  • From using this Doppler thingy, the star is moving away from us which means we will have a long ride. Ahhhhhhh.
