  • The child's mouth watered at his favourite sweet burfi but knew his parents would say he was too greedy. The child murmured "I want that garland."But he knew his parents would refuse saying it was cheap.
  • "gulab jamun, rasagulla, burfi, jalebi"

  • He soon saw a man with colourful balloons  but knew his parents would refuse to buy it saying he was too old. He soon came upon a snake charmer but moved further knowing his parents had forbidden him to hear such coarse music.
  • He soon saw a roundabout and could hold it no longer and he pleaded for the ride. But there was no reply and found he was lost.
  • 'I want go on the roundabout , please, Mother, Father.'
  • The boy ran hither and thither his face convulsed with fear. He wailed loud.He ran towards a shrine where a great group of people had crowded. He might have been trampled underfoot had he not shrieked loud!A man picked him up asking whose baby he was and steered clear of the mass.

  • The man tried everything he could and would fulfill all his earlier desires but the boy would not stop crying.
  • The child tried to catch the dragonflies and butterflies that fluttered about . He would follow it with gaze till it came to rest and catch it but failed.
  • His mother melted by the free-spirit of day asked the child to look before him where lay a mustard field, pale as gold as it swept across miles and miles of even land.
