Hello! My name is Carly! My job as a Archaeologist is to find ancient pottery, written on slabs of clay and much more that can help us know more about a certain place.
This is a picture of Mt. Olympus and the Mediterranean Sea.
What do you see?
This is the Parthenon.
As an Archaeologist, my job is to explore many historic sites to understand how humans had lived many years ago. Today we will take a trip back in time to 700 B. C.
The two major physical features are the mountains, tallest one being Mt. Olympus which reminds us where the Greek gods live. They also have the Mediterranean Sea right under them which encouraged trade throughout the civilizations.
This is Mount Olympus! Where all of the gods live, the main one being Zeus.
This is the Parthenon which was made in 447 B.C. The work began under the orders of Pericles to show the wealth and exuberance of Athenian power. It was dedicated to the goddess Athena as Athens patron goddess was Athena.
How has this civilization influenced ours?
They influenced out civilization in so many ways! We still do many things that they did back then.
They created their statues to show perfection and would sacrifice their food to their gods. They would also host the Olympics. The ancient games were also a religious festival, held in honor of Zeus, the king of the gods.
In this civilization they believed in many gods and goddesses. This is Mount Olympus, were all the gods live. Religion started as a way to explain the things that science couldn't. They had legends and myths about their gods. They also built temples and offered sacrifices to their major gods.
This is where they believe the gods and goddesses live.
Today we still use their architecture, including their columns. They also influenced our alphabet that we use today. These people had a direct democracy which is where we got our representative democracy.
