Brock sets out to research outside of his dome. He must take a scanner so everything is "safe". Little does he know what adventure awaits him.

Brock ran into some sort of mutant specimen. Is it safe? Will he freak out or stay calm? He scans the mutant, "Canis Familiaris" the scanner reads. No one saw one of these in years. Brock sees the dead mother. Will he help it?
The officials in quarantine inspection, who rarely had anything to inspect, were at first nervous and then, as they watched the puppy happily licking Brock’s face, interested despite themselves. An actual dog!(62)
Brock forgets about his scanner. He slowly decides to approach the "extinct" figurine. Was it dangerous? Brock reaches his hand out and feeds the pup pellets.
Brock decided to take the strange species back to the dome with him. Would he sneak him in or let the scientist do experiment and tests on hi new best friend?
Brock decides to tell others. People are in shock. He is now contained with his new friend. Brock is though trying to keep the dog, Brog, out of danger by not letting the scientist do experiments.
Brock escaped the dome and learned that the outside world is safe and taking risks can take you far in life. He drank the water and nothing happened. Maybe it wasn't so bad after all.
It was wonderful how much faster he could walk without the clumsy suit. “Who knows?” Brock said to a frisking Brog. “Who knows, maybe out here you aren’t the last dog. Your mother had to come from somewhere.”(96)
