Have you heard of the Eight-fold path? It was a set of religious morals created by Siddhartha Gautama, or the "Buddha." Many people today follow Buddhism and the eight-fold path.
You should follow Buddhism!
Well, first of all, what are some of the morals included in the Eightfold Path? Trust us, it is as easy as 1,2,3 to remember them! Let's look at two examples of the actual lessons and two that we created. You can apply the morals to real life, too.
In this scene, Jason, the football player, is bullying Jim, the nerd. Maya decides to follow 'Right Intent' and stands up for Jim.
One of the morals in the eight-fold path is 'Right Intent.' This means you should always incline towards goodness and kindness. In a modern day example, if someone is getting bullied, you should stand up to them. This would be an act of kindness.
Why are you so rude?
In this scene, Maya doesn't pass on rumors about Jim even when Jason spreads the lies and tells her to pass it on.
Another one of the morals in the eight-fold path is 'Right Speech.' When you follow this, it means you avoid lies and gossip. In this example, Maya doesn't spread rumors about Jim even when Jason tells her to pass it on. This is being kind and avoiding lies.
This wasn't a costume party? Oh, no!
Jim's wearing a dumb outfit. Spread the word!
Some examples of 'Right Purpose' are provided. You shouldn't befriend someone to take advantage of them. Also, you shouldn't borrow someone's items just to destroy them on purpose.
But what are some morals Noor and Shruti created? Well, they are as helpful as an encyclopedia! Our first example is 'Right Purpose.' This means that you should do everything for a good reason.
I can't believe Chelsea told Ms. Abbott that I was sick just so she could play Juliet!
Oh, my dear Romeo, what will I ever do without you?
In this scene, Laura agrees to play a background character in the play without trying to take revenge on Chelsea. This leads her and Chelsea to a moment of truce/peace, or nirvana.
Another moral for the eight-fold path that we created is 'Right Tolerance.' This means that if someone does something mean to you, you have to suffer and just tolerate it without taking revenge. You shouldn't get back at someone/get revenge.
