An important moment in my independent reading book: Mud City by Deborah Ellis, is the moment Shauzia is finally allowed to leave her Refugee Camp to begin her journey to France, and the moment she finally leaves the camp. It takes place after she tells the annoying refugee kids her story of when she encountered wolves.
Mrs. Weera lets Shauzia leave the refugee camp after a heated argument (pg. 21)
You know where the gates are We shall throw you a farewell party today
Shauzia decides to leave for France that night after gazing at her picture of France. (pg. 27)
Lets go tonight!
Shauzia packs up and leaves with Jasper (her dog) (pg. 28)
