Storyboard Text

  • "The Scarlet Ibis" : On Expectations
  • " Expect the unexpected..."
  • "The Scarlet Ibis" : On Pride
  • "The Scarlet Ibis" : On Death
  • In "The Scarlet Ibis" Doodle was never expected to live as a baby and also was never expected to crawl or even walk. The theme is that people have expectations and don't have any hope that they will be altered.
  • "Simon Birch" : On Friendship
  • In "The Scarlet Ibis" the brother teaches Doodle to walk because he is embarrassed of him. The theme is that too much pride can hurt others.
  • "Simon Bird" : On Religion
  • "I don't know Simon..."
  • In "The Scarlet Ibis" the brother pushes Doodle so hard he actually kills Doodle and only blames himself. The theme is that death can have a tremendous toll on somebody's attitude on life. It can even lead to worse if you have only yourself to blame.
  • "Simon Birch" : On Parenting
  • "Simon cares about you Joe."
  • In "Simon Birch" Simon and Joe are best friends through thick and thin. They both relate to each other because they were both teased and talked about behind their backs. The theme here is that friendships could last forever and sacrifices are made down the road but along that road there are many adventures, laughs, and memories.
  • "Does god have a plan for us?"
  • In the movie "Simon Birch" Simon asks Father Russel if God has a plan for us, and Reverend does not know how to respond. The theme is that things happen for a reason because God has a plan for each and everyone of us.
  • In "Simon Birch" Ben was there for Joe during the good times and the bad times. When Joe's mother died, the bus tragedy, and Simon's death, he was there and cared for them. The theme here is that parenting could be very difficult especially when you are trying to come into the family and have the children accept you.
