  • We are here to stop you from invading us
  • Republican Party candidate Abraham Lincoln becomes the 16th President of the United States. He wins the presidential election without carrying a single Southern vote.
  • The Gettysburg Address
  • Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in Liberty.
  • Fort sumter was were the civil war started. A place that had been occupied byLincoln, under public pressure, sends provisions to the previously unmanned garrison and notifies the Secessionists of his intentions.
  • Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse
  • I feel that it is so, and regard it as my duty to shift from myself any further effusion of blood, by asking of you the surrender of that portion of the C.S. Army known as the Army of Northern Virginia.
  • Confederate General Robert E. Lee, in an attempt to bring the Southern cause to the North, invades pennsylvania but is meet by the union army. Both sides are tired and the Union fails to press advantage as Lee retreats.
  • Assassination of Lincoln
  • We will visit the Holy Land, and see those places hallowed by the footsteps of the Savior
  • Lincoln arrives at gettysburg to speak at the dedication ceremony for the Gettysburg war dead. His speech was only two minutes long but makes strong reference to the language of the Declaration of Independence and emphasises the unity of the nation.
  • Union reinforcements arrive at the Appomattox Courthouse, Virginia and secure General Robert E Lee’s surrender. This marks the effective end of the Civil War.
  • Lincoln is shot in his box at the Ford Theatre in Washington D.C. by John Wilkes Booth and dies early the next morning. His secretaries escape a similar fate. Andrew Johnson becomes President.
