- Most slaves would try to escape at night while their owners were sleep. They usually knew where they were going by following the north star.
- Slave catchers would go find slaves at night they would look in the woods, or in the fields, or at Quakers homes to find slaves.
- When slaves found a way to escape they started to escape to Canada. They used the Underground Railroad to escape.
