  •         If you have a  negative exponent you either move to the top of a fraction or to the bottom. RULE:  a     =   1 / a                                                         
  • The Negative Rule 
  • Anything to the zero exponent is always going to be 1. RULE:  4       =      1
  • The Zero Rule 
  • When you multiply you keep the same base if they are the same then you add the exponents.  RULE:  a                   a     =        a      
  • The Multiplication Rule 
  • When you divide you keep the same base is they are the same and you subtract the  exponents.  RULE: a     /        a       =      a       
  • Division Rule 
  • When you multiply a power to a power then you only multiply the exponent to the exponent inside the ( ). RULE: ( a  )     =    a      
  • Power to a Power Rule
  • When you multiply a number it really has an exponent with it also (1). When you multiply you times both exponents in the ( ) by the exponen ton the outside.  RULE:  (  a   b   )      =    a      b    
  • Product to a Power Rule
