Ancient Greece did not have the best farmland. They lived on a peninsula, which is a piece of land surrounded by water. They had very rocky land and could only farm 25% of their land.

In ancient Greece they traveled by the ocean to trade with other people. They became sailors and went around to different continents and countries to trade different goods with other people. They became excellent sailors.
The 10 year war 
In ancient Greece they traded many different ideas and customs with other people. They traded food to other people. They exchanged their ideas with other people and got many in return.
The "GIFT"
We shall take her away to  Troy!!!
Around 1200 BCE the Greeks initiated a war against the city state known as Troy. The Greek King's wife took off with the Trojan. The Mycenaean's sailed across the Aegean sea and declared war on Troy. 
They sailed across the Mediterranean sea to get the king's wife back. They declared a war and it lasted 10 years. Once they arrived they found out that it was a walled city and they could not get in. 
ATTACK!!!! 
The king came up with a plan to get his wife back. They were going to pretend to surrender by giving a gift that gift was a horse.  Little did they know that there was going to be 5 soldiers in there waiting until the right time. They left to Troy to deliver the gift. Once they brought the gift into the kingdom the soldiers waited until night time to come out. They opened the gate and let everybody else come in. They then finally got his wife back and brought her back to live with the king.
