Thomas Alva Edison was born in February, 11th 1847 in Milan, Ohio and grew up in Port Huron, Michigan.
He was the seventh and last child of Samuel Odgen Edison Jr. and Nancy Matthews Elliott.
He was an American inventor and businessman, who has been described as America's greatest inventor.
On December 25, 1871, at the age of 24, he married a 16 year old Mary Stilwell, they had three children: Marion Estelle, Thomas Alva Edison Jr and William Leslie Edison. Mary Edison died at age 29, on August 9, 1884, possibly from a brain tumor or a morphine overdose.
On February 24, 1886, at the age of 39, Edison married the 20 year old Mina Miller in Akron, Ohio. They had also three children: Madeleine Edison, Charles Edison and Theodore Miller Edison. Mina outlived Thomas Edison, dying on August 24, 1947.
Edison died of complications of diabetes on October 18, 1931.
