Dennis Chavez was 13 years old when he quit school. He needed to support his impoverished family so he had to quit. But he was able to intellect himself. Soon he was able to get into a law school called "Georgetown University". Then after years of learning, he graduated and got his law degree. He soon became a senator who represented Mexico.
Chavez provide public children materials such as textbooks, he was determined to defending the oppressed. Since Chavez was a senator he introduced many civil rights reform bills, which sought to end race discrimination in any type of workplace. In 1950, Chavez was the 1st senator to denounce the anti-communist actions of senator Joseph McCarthy.
Sadly, Dennis Chavez soon died in 1962 on November 18th, He had died from a heart attack. Mexico was honored that Chavez represented Mexico so in return they made a statue of him.
