On October 17, 1777, Burgoyne surrendered to America under the Convention of Saratoga, which allowed his men to return to Britain and no longer serve in war in North America. The Battle of Saratoga was known as the turning point of the war.
As a result of the Battle of Saratoga, the Americans secured aid from France. The French provided money, troops, and military supplies to the Americans which would benefit them later in the war.
Spain and the Netherlands also aided the Americans later on after the French. With these alliances, America had an increased amount of troops in their army along with enough supplies to carry them on in the war.
