  • The Crimean War was fought due to Russia's interest in the Crimea Peninsula. The Ottomans had that land, and the British and French joined the Ottoman's from gaining control of the land. Russia fell to the alliance, leading the Ottoman's, British, and French to victory.

  • The Suez Canal was built in 1869 by Isma'il Isma'il. It was a waterway that connected the Red Sea and Mediterranean Sea. It enabled a more efficient shipping route between Europe and Asia

  • The Berlin Conference took place in 1884. Powerful leaders met for a conference to discuss the division of Africa. No African leaders were invited or had an idea this was happening. Each European country was able to claim land in Africa by notifying other nations of its claims

  • The Battle of Adowa took place in 1896. the battle was between Ethiopian rebellion and British resistance. It was one of the only successful movements in which African rebellion had won

  • The Boer War took place in 1899 between the British and the Boers. The war is known as the first modern war. The British had won the war in 1910.
