  • This is James Polk, the president at the time of American Imperialism
  • The annexation of Texas brought tensions between the US and Mexico over who has control of Texas.
  • Meanwhile, the U.S. justified their actions with manifest destiny, the belief that the U.S was destined, by God, to spread its influence.
  • I think we're doing everyone a favor by taking them under our wing!
  • This is William McKinley, the president during the Spanish- American war. 
  • The defeat of Spain in the war brought new land for the United States including Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines.
  • Good work, boys.
  • By the end of the Mexican- American war and the Spanish- American war, America gained new land and expanded their influence overseas.
