At Dairy Queen, Pony and Johnny are in shock when they find out about the events going on at home, especially when they find out that Cherry is a spy for the greasers!
The fire won't swallow you!
On the way back to the church, Johnny makes a life changing decision to turn himself in to the cops. He feels guilty for ruining Pony's life, doesn't want to live his life on the run, and thinks he'll get let off easy because it was self defense.
You're friends are hurt badly, but you're heroes!
Police? No, the hospital.
The three return to find the church in flames with a group of young school children huddled around. Despite Dally's protests, Johnny and Pony hastily get out of the car. They figure out that kids are missing and head inside the church to find them. How could they take more lives?
Pony, I'm so sorry! It's been years since I saw you!
They head into the church to find a group of kids. They lift them out the window, saving their lives. Just before the roof collapses, Pony makes it out the window, only to be slapped on the back by Dally and pass out. Dally goes back to save Johnny, who hardly survives.
In the ambulance, the teacher named Jerry tells Pony that his friends are alive, and that the children are okay. Pony confesses his whole story, but Jerry doesn't mind. He's kind and understanding about the murder and Pony's situation.
How are my friends? Are we going to the police?
Pony meets Soda and Darry at the hospital. After hugging Soda, Pony can't resist Darry's tearful eyes and forgives him. Johnny and Dally are carried in on stretchers, while Pony enjoys being reunited with him family.
