It is midnight, and it is in the bleak December. The house has a dark and lonely tone. The man is reading a book of forgotten lore in his chamber.
He has lost his wife Lenore, and is longing to have her back. He is lonely and depressed.
He hears a louder tapping at his window, and he opens it. A raven flies out. It flew up and perched upon his chamber door. He asks what its name is, and it says "nevermore". He was amazed, and he asked him if he would ever see Lenore again. The bird responds "nevermore".
He is outraged. "Prophet! Thing of evil," he said. He asked the bird to leave in a firm tone. The raven responds, "nevermore".
The bird continues to stay on top of his door. It haunts him.
The shadow of the raven remains on the floor, and it shall never be lifted.
