  • My name is Charlie Gordon and I want to learn. I want to become a genius!
  • Conflict

  • Joe, why did you and Frank petition to fire me?
  • Charlie Gordon is a man born with a learning disability. He is being interviewed to be experimented on. The experiment is a brain surgery to make him smart.
  • Climax
  • It's not his fault he's like this!
  • The conflict is that Charlie sees things differently when he is smart.
  • Falling Action
  • Goodbye, Algernon.
  • After Charlie got smart, his coworkers at the factory signed a petition to fire Charlie. After Charlie finds out he's been fired, he asks Joe why he signed the petition, but he just ignores him.
  • Resolution
  • In a restaurant, a worker dropped dishes on the floor, then everyone begins to laugh. At first Charlie laughed too but he realized that the worker was just like him before the surgery. He then stood up and yelled at the people who were laughing and making fun of the worker.
  • As time went on, Algernon began his regression back to being a mouse. However, he didn't eat or drink anything, eventually Algernon died. Charlie buried Algernon in his backyard under a tree.
  • After Charlie goes back to being dumb, he tells everyone what happened and now everyone feels bad and sorry for him. Charlie doesn't want people to be this way and wants everything back to what it was before he was smart. He decides to leave the town so he will have things the way he liked it.
