Hoot, by Carl Hiaasen is about a boy named Roy Eberhart. He is trying to track down a boy that he saw running one day without any shoes. When he does find him he gets himself into some big trouble.
The 3 main characters in the novel, Hoot are Roy, Mullet Fingers, and Beatrice. Mullet Fingers is really shy, Roy is very curious, and Beatrice is very brave and strong. One of the main settings in the novel is the school.
Dana bullies Roy on the bus. One day Roy ends up getting to guts to punch him in the face. This gave Dana a broken nose.
The burrowing owl´s habitats are being destroyed by a pancake house. Roy, Beatrice and Mullet Fingers are trying to save them. They try to sabotage the construction of the pancake house.
Dana gets in trouble with the police and goes to jail. He was stealing and trespassing. He soon gets released after.
Roy, Beatrice, and Mullet Fingers end up saving the owls. The pancake ends up not getting built there. Everyone goes home happy and Roy, Beatrice, and Mullet Fingers are relieved that they saved the owls.
