Storyboard Text

  • Virginia Plan
  • I think that states should base their number of representatives by their population. The government should have three branches with different tasks and each branch will keep the other branches from growing in power.
  • I too think that the government should be split into three different branches. However, I think that each state should  have a equal number of votes so none of the states will have too much power.
  • New Jersey Plan
  • The Great Compromise
  • Thanks to the idea of Roger Sherman, we have decided to have two legislative houses. One house will be called the House of Representatives where people would be elected by popular vote and based on population. The other house will have the will be called the Senate, where people would be elected by the Legislature and each state will have two Senators no matter what the size.
  • Northern States Perspective
  • I believe that since slaves are considered as property and cannot vote , they should not count for population and representation. Also, some of us Northern States banned the slave trade in our border states in 1787.
  • We the people of the Southern States want to include slaves in our population because they could give us more representatives and they are a very important asset to our economy, therefor we shouldn't ban slavery like the Northern States.
  • Southern States Perspective
  • The Northern and Southern states have decided to count a slave as 3/5 of a person for taxes and population for the House of Representatives.
