-Dark foces behing Montressor's control "A hug human foot d'or, in a field azure; the foot crushes a serpant rampant whose fangs are imbeded in the heel." (Poe 4) The foot resembles Montressor crushing Fortunato but is an evil force behind his conrol.
-Fortunato's pride decayed when he started to become less drunk. "It was succeeded in a sad voice, which I had trouble recognizing." (Poe 6) Fortunato started off the story very full of himself and by the end he lost his pride.
-Montressor killing Fortunato because of jealousy. "Although in other regards he was a man to be." Montressor killing Fortunato is a uneplained manifestation because he killed him because of jealousy but jealousy doesn't give Montressor the right to kill Fortunato.
