representation should be determined by state population
Virginia Plan- The plan was written to show a general structure for the United States government.New Jersey Plan- Called for separation of powers among the three branches of government
states should have equal votes regardless of size
Agreement between delegates that a slave would be counted as ⅗ of a person when counting the population of a state.
Let's just make another compromise!!!
Commerce and Slave Trade Compromise
The federal government should be able to tax!!!
The Commerce and Slave Trade Compromise was an agreement reached by the assembly that Congress would be forbidden to tax the export of goods from any State.
Both plans posed ideas as to how US should be governed, but compromise established Senate & House which ensured they work efficiently contributing to our governmental system.
Federalists vs. Anti-Federalists
Add Bill of Rights!
Federalists- people who supported the ratification of the constitution. Anti-Federalists- Those who opposed ratification.
It was a way to count slaves as citizens of the state this was good for south because it upped the number of reps they had in the house, but this was good for the north because they would have lower taxes compared to the south.
Three Branches of Government
Legislative- create laws and frame public policies.Executive- enforce and administer laws.Judicial-interpret & evaluate laws to determine their meaning and settle disputes that arise.
This concept was introduced at the same Convention of 1787 that adopted the constitution, and thus further contributed to American values of liberty that we continue to live by.
Bill of Rights
The Bill of Rights is a document stating the first ten amendments of the U.S. Constitution.
The debate of ratification eventually led to the addition of the Bill of Right. This ratification laid the foundations for the present national government.
Branches are listed in the first three articles of the Constitution, further contributing to the Constitution. They also follow American principles that include; ensuring protected rights & an effective government.
These ten amendments defined the guaranteed civil rights and freedoms citizens have like freedom of speech, religion, press, etc which are the fundamental laws by which the US governed. This contributed to the already existing Constitution.
The rights of people are implied another document is unnecessary!!!
