During the beginning of the book, Kino was happy, listening to his song of the family.
"in the incandescence of the pearl the pictures formed of the things Kino's mind has considered in the past and has given up as impossible." This shows how Kino began to feel more hopeful in his hopes and dreams because of his newly found pearl.
When someone attempted to mug Kino for his pearl, he began to be less trusting in others.
"It is worth 50000. You know it. You want to cheat me." This shows how Kinos distrust in others is affecting how he reacts to certain situations.
In order to protect his pearl, Kino attacked his wife, Juana, which shows that Kino is now serious enough about his pearl to put it before his family.
"This pearl has become my soul. If I give it up I shall lose my soul. Go thou also with God." This shows that Kino has gone to an extreme in order to protect his pearl, and he is now going to protect it with his life
