Storyboard Text

  • In 1933 the US saw the number of unemployed men. The US government wanted to employ unmarried men so married men could have regular jobs. The US also needed to help the forests and public lands. They decided that this was the perfect way to employ these men.
  • These workers worked in forests and public lands. They made roads, trails, and planted trees. They also built wildlife refuges, fish-rearing facilities, water storage basins, and animal shelters. This increased Americans' awareness of the environment.
  • Overall, over 1,400 camps were built across America, and millions of men employed. Many illiterate men learned to read and write. Also, many unskilled workers were able to learn and get good jobs. over 3.5 billion trees were planted.
