your son will be a great king, or religious leader
he must not leave!
I wonder what is out there
According to legends, Queen Maya had a dream in which she learned she would give birth to a child who would be holy. He was given the name Siddhartha because it means ‘perfect fulfilment’. After Siddhartha was born, a prophecy foretold that he would be a great ruler or a holy man
what is wrong with him
The king wanted him to be a great ruler so he shielded his son from seeing any pain or suffering. Siddhartha lived a life of luxury in a palace. He made sure his son had everything in the palace, so he wouldn’t want to leave.
wake up... hello... would you like some rice
Siddhartha grew up to become a caring and kind person. When he was 16 years old he married his cousin, Yasodhara. As he grew up, he wondered about the world around him and wanted to see what was outside the palace. With his chariot driver, Channa, he left the palace on a trip to the city and saw what have become known as The Four Sights.
The first sight was an old man. Siddhartha had never seen anyone old before. The second sight was illness. When Siddhartha saw an ill person he was upset as he had never seen anyone who was ill before. The third sight was a dead person being carried. The fourth sight was a holy man walking through the street. This person made Siddhartha curious, as the holy man was looking to understand truth
I am so old
Siddhartha became an ascetic, which means he lived a simple life with no possessions and refused to do anything that would give him pleasure. He also tried to be disciplined in meditating to try to understand suffering. He fasted for long periods of time and this caused him to suffer even more. Eventually he was so weak that he ate some rice, and this made him realise that he still didn’t understand how to get rid of suffering. He realised that the way to live was the Middle Way between luxury and poverty.
oh yes!! please
Once Siddhartha realised that self-denial is not the right path, he meditated under a what is now called the Bodhi Tree or 49 days until reaching enlightenment. after he did and became Buddha, he went around India for 49 years teaching others to reach enlightenment as well.
