At the beginning of this story you meet sheila mant at her swimming pool while the narrator or main character is looking at her.
Then later into the story the narrator gets sheila mant to go to a party with her but hes going to take her by canon. He doesn't want to mess up this night. Man vs. self
Sheila mant goes with him in the canoe but then he realizes he left his pole in the canoe and his line in the water.
The narrator caught a bass on his line that he left in the water on accident. He now has to choose want he wants more, sheila mant or the bass. He struggles through the time of the ride to the dance because he was trying to hide the bass for sheila mant and how she would think of him. So he cuts the line and loses the fish
They got to the dance and they were having a good time but at the end of it she chose to go home with an older guy because he had a car and the narrator was too young.
At the end the narrator felt regret of choosing sheila over the fish now. He realizes that he shouldn't be so obsessed with someone who does not care.
