Scout has a rough first day of school. She has an encounter with Miss Caroline. She also gets into a tussle with Walter Cunningham because she feels that it was his fault that she got off one the wrong foot with Miss Caroline.
Scout witnesses a Big Fire
Atticus notices that scout had a bad first day of school. He then precedes to strike a deal with Scout in which really he gets two things out of it. If Scout kept going to school, he would continue to read with her at home.
Scout's Experience with a Rabid Dog
Scout finds a piece of gum and some pennies in one of the trees in their neighborhood. Jem later also receives gifts from the tree. Things like pocket-watches and gum. Nathan Radley however later fills the tree with cement.
Mrs. Dubose's Death and the Events Leading Up to It.
One night while the Finch family were sleeping, Scout was woken up by Atticus telling her to get outside. While outside, Boo Radley wrapped a blanket around Scout without her noticing.
Scout and Jem believed that their dad was old and feeble. He was nearly 50, and was mainly blind in his left eye. However, later on when a rabid dog cursed the neighborhood, Atticus took it out with one shot.
Everyday on the way to town, Scout and Jem must pass a mean old lady's house . That mean old lady, is Mrs. Dubose. One day Miss Dubose said some very mean comments having Atticus on the receiving end. Jem later came back and cut all of Miss Dubose's flowers into little pieces. Atticus punishes him and makes him read to her everyday after school for a month. Later in the story after the month had passed, so had Miss Dubose. Atticus then informed Jem and Scout.
