Long ago the deer had no horns. Its head was smooth just like a doe's is he was a really good runner though . The rabbit was a really good jumper and all the animals in the woods wanted to see which one could go faster if they left at the same time. They decide that the winner of the race would get a nice pair of antlers.
They would have to start at one side of the thicket then go through it then turn and come back and the one who came out first would get the horns. They laid the Horns at the side of the thicket were they were supposed to start.
The rabbit said he didn't know this side of the country and wanted to walk through it one time before the race started so he would know where to go.
He had been gone for quite some time and the animals startred to get suspicious about what the rabbit was doing. When they found the rabbit he was clearing out the bushed for a path to lead to the other side of the road. The mesenger turned around and went back to tell the others
The messenger came back and told the others about the rabbit clearing off a path and when the rabbit came back they accused him of cheating he continued to denied it when they went back to look they found he was lying a did clear a path. They then declared that the deer was the fastest.
With finding out the raddit had cheated deer won and got the antlers. That is the story of how the deer got the antlers that the native Americans tells people.
