John went out for a drink after work, since he knew his wife wouldn't have dinner on the table until 7:30. He would always come home drunk, but he promised Jane, his wife that he would only have one drink tonight.
Just one drink tonight...
John was heavily intoxicated, which led him to have agression. This would not be good for Jane and the kids when John got home.
Okay, maybe I had like eleventeen, this is Jane's Fault!
John came home, and unfortunately, he beat his family. Jane protected her children, and she was in terrible condition. This was the last straw for Jane. Ahe would join the temperance movement, to ban the sales of alcohol.
THIS IS YOUR FAULT!!!
John! Don't hurt the kids!
Lips that touch liquor shall not touch ours! Demon Rum!
And, in January 1920, the Consumption of Alcohol was now illegal. The temperance movement was a success!
According to the 18th Amendment, Alcohol is now illegal!
Man, I could really go for a beer right now...
Well John, you can't because we made it illegal. Maybe if people like you hadn't beaten us, it still would be legal.
And that is where we end today. Alcohol is illegal, and now nobody can drink alcohol anymore. (For now...)
