  • The lesson
  • Hello students, today we will be learning about Meiosis and all of its stages.
  • Interphase
  • For Meiosis to begin, inter phase must occur first. Inter phase is when all of the chromosomes in the cell duplicate.
  • Pro-phase, Ana-phase, Meta-phase, Telo-phase
  • These are the stages. the cell loses the cell membrane, then chromosomes line up in the middle, next the chromosomes get pulled apart, finally you will start to see 2 cells
  • In the lesson for the 6th grade students, they will learn about Meiosis. Starting at Interphase, then to Pro-phase, to Meta-phase, Ana-phase, Telo-phase, Cytokinesis, and then the second time of all the stages.
  • Cytokinesis
  • This stage is Cytokinesis, this is when the one cell final divides into 2 cells
  • Interphase occurs only once in Meiosis, before the cell can divide the cell duplicates its chromosomes to have 96.
  • Meiosis 2
  • -Prophase is when the cell loses its cell membrane and spindle fibers form-Metaphase is when the the chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell-Anaphase is when the chromosomes get pulled apart from each other-Telophase is when the cell re-creates the nuclear membrane to hold the chromosomes, and starts make the cell split
  • Next lesson
  • Later in this unit we will be learning about sexual reproduction. Meiosis is another way to create sex cells.
  • In this stage, the cell closes the gap which is the cytoplasm, once the gap is closed there will be 2 new cells or 2 new daughter cells. This stage happens now and at the end of Meiosis.
  • In Meiosis 2, the cells divide exactly like the cell in Meiosis 1. All the stages except Interphase occur. This means the cells do not duplicate, therefore the cells will have 23 chromosomes each.
  • Meiosis 2 is when the cells don't duplicate the chromosomes and they just divide into cells with 23 chromosomes
  • Tomorrow the students will learn about Asexual and Sexual Reproductive System.
