Storyboard Description

After what happened during gym class, Starr goes to Maya’s house upset and Maya and Haily ask her why she is upset. Haily is upset that Starr accused her of being racist because of her fried chicken joke and Starr says that the joke still felt racist which is why she was mad and after a small argument they decide to drop it and watch T.V. and found the interview with One-Fifteens father. The photo they show of One-Fifteen on the T.V. is him wearing a crucifix and his father tries to defend him by saying he was a part of the worst neighborhood and that he is a good kid, Starr notes that Khalil would have been a good kid too. One-Fifteens father tries to justify his son's actions by trying to make it look like Khalil was being aggressive and tried to pull a gun out on him and said that One just wanted to go home, Starr notes that Khalil wanted to go home too. Ever since the shooting One-Fifteen has been getting assaulted and Starr remembers Carlos bruised knuckles and realizes that he hit him. Haily says that One-Fifteens life matters too and Starr tries to leave the room but Haily stops her to ask why she disagrees and Starr cries and says that his life always matters more, Starr then confronts Haily and asked her if she unfollowed her on Tumblr because of the Emmit Till post and Haily throws a fit, angry that Starr is accusing her of being racist and leaves out of anger, After she left Maya revealed that she actually did unfollow her because of the post. Maya acknowledges that Haily can be racist. Freshman year, Hailey asked if Maya—who is Chinese—ate cat for Thanksgiving. Starr and Maya agree to confront Hailey’s racism together.
