Storyboard Text

  • The Articles of Confederation served as the first Constitution but, did not supports its colonies.
  • The Founding Fathers decided to get rid of the Articles of Confederation and create a new document.
  • My name is James Madison and I am here to propose the Virginia plan. This plan proposes more representation for the larger states but not as much representation for the smaller states.
  • It offers 3 types of branches that provides support towards the larger states. But this might not be fair to everyone.
  • My name is, William Patterson and I am here to propose the New Jersey Plan due to the proposal of the Virginia Plan. My plan proposes a unicameral legislation. A legislation that is equal to larger and smaller states.
  • This plan seems fair to everyone.
  • We are here to support the smaller states and we want as much power as everyone else.
  • We know all the states want power so we need to come up with a compromise that allows all states to be equal. The Great Compromise allows us to do this.
  • We are here to support the larger states and we believe we deserve more power because we have larger populations to be taken care of.
  • Our names are James Wilson and Roger Sherman and we are here to propose the Three-Fifths Compromise. This proposal counts slaves as 3/5 of a person when it comes to Presidential electors and taxes.
  • Now this proposal solves how slaves count when it comes to taxes but this doesn't solve how taxes or trade is regulated.
  • This is why the Commerce Compromise was created. This Compromise stated that Congress could not regulate trade, no export tax, and no limit on slave trade for 20 years.
  • My name is James Madison and I am here to support the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights supports the people and is important to successful ratification.
  • The Bill of Rights was successfully added to the constitution in 1791.
