Deception in act 2 scene 6
Romeo and Juliet are not together anymore and Mercutio knows that. But is making fun of him and telling Benvolio lies. Mercutio is making fun of Romeo by saying that Rosaline is so pretty but than a day later Romeo falls in love with Juliet and forgets about Rosaline. Mercutio shows deception by lying to Benvolio about Romeo’s love life.
Juliet is a Capulet and Romeo is a Montague. These to different groups are enemies and the parents hate one another. Juliet knows that she can not change to be a Montague or not a Capulet she says this to please Romeo and herself so they do not lose each other. Juliet shows deception by lying to Romeo about changing to be a Montague.
Romeo and Juliet want to get married without anyone knowing. The only problem is that after the marriage someone else could marry Juliet, like the Prince. So Romeo and Juliet are not techily married because they are keeping it a secret. They both show deception because they are lying to everyone about not being married.
