Riding roller coasters is my biggest fear. Riding one is the most courageous thing I have ever done. I never liked roller coasters since they were high up, had drops and could break down. My sister had made me ride a roller coaster with her while at an amusement park. I had been so scared while waiting in the long line for our turn. As soon as we had gotten to the front of the line I had started crying because of how scared I was. The operator asked me, “ Do you not wanna go on the ride?” I said no but my sister told me it was going to be fun and nothing would go wrong. I ended up going on the ride and had lots of fun. A positive thing in the end was I ended up liking roller coasters a bit more now.
Annmarie had a moment of bravery when she had run through the woods to deliver the packet to uncle Henrik. When Annmarie found the packet Mr. Rosen had dropped, she told mama she would go into the woods to bring it to them. While Annmarie was in the woods she had heard noises and had seen soldiers. Annmarie did not head back home even though she could have been scared. On chapter 14 page 111 it states, “ But she had heard something else. She heard bushes rustling ahead. She heard footsteps, And she was certain it was not her imagination—she heard a low growl. Cautiously she took a step forward, And another. She approached the tum in the path* and the noises continue, “ This shows how Annmarie is determined to get the packet to uncle Henrik even though she had heard a noise while in the woods. Annmarie could have gone back home but she didn’t and stayed courageous. Another way Annmarie was brave in the woods was when she had an encounter with the soldiers she had stayed brave. In the text on chapter 15 page 117 it states, “ Suddenly to her own surprise, she began to cry. l don't know!' she said, her voice choked "My mother's going to be angry that you stopped me and made me late And you've completely ruined Uncle Henrik's lunch, so now he'll be mad at me, too!" This shows how Annmarie had been brave and did not turn away just because the soldiers found the packet. This is why Annmarie is courageous.
Annmarie is very courageous. Annmarie shows courage when she helps hide Ellen in her apartment. Hiding a jewish person in your house is very dangerous since you could be killed if caught. Annmarie had to pretend that Ellen was her older sister Lise so the soldiers would not take ellen. When the soldiers had come to check Annmarie's room Annmarie had yanked Ellen's star of David so the soldiers would not know she was jewish. On chapter 5 page 44 it says, "Hold still," Annemarie commanded. "This will hurt." She grabbed the little gold chain yanked with all her strength and broke it.” This shows when Annmarie was trying to help Ellen by pulling her necklace off because it was stuck. Another example of Annmarie being coraguse is when she tried to speak for Ellen when they had asked for the girls names. Annmarie had tried telling the soldiers that Ellen was lise her older sister but they had yelled at her to be quiet and let her speak for herself. Annmarie could have been hit or hurt by the german soldiers because she had spoken for ellen. Annmarie shows much courage throughout the book.
