There was a large boom of tourism in the 1920's. There were many attractions in the South including Laurel Park, Lake Lure, and Summer Camps. There was also lots of recreation during this time.

The Ku Klux Klan expanded into many states to dominate local and state policies. The Klan created a strategy called the "decade", which mean't that each member had to recruit ten new people. In 1924 the Klan succeeded in engineering in elections of officials from coast to coast. The KKK was present all across the country.
The Southern Literacy Renaissance was a movement to bring literature back to the South. Many writers made an appearance such as William Faulkner, Caroline Gourdon, Elizabeth Maddox Roberts, and Allen Tate. They became popular, as did many people involved with literature.
