Huh? Cyanide?What's that?
Ah right,
Cyanide is a poison that prevents ATP production via aerobic respiration.
It can destroy your respiration at ease!
IV
Cyanide
Cyanide is one of the most potent intracellular and lethal poison known to man.
It binds to an allosteric site on the enzyme cytochrome oxidase which takes part in respiration reactions in cells.
If this enzyme is inhibited, ATP cannot be made since the oxygen is decreased.
The binding of the cyanide to the allosteric site causes a conformation al change to the enzyme’s active site.
Now, the active site of cytochrome oxidase (enzyme) and its substrate no longer share specificity
it can no longer catalyze a reaction for ATP production via aerobic respiration.
Therefore, Cyanide is a Non-competitive inhibitor!
