Rico woke up in the middle of desert,he saw others vomiting, and one person even died, everybody got off the bus the driver and coyotes were resting in the bus,all of a sudden a border patrol car showed up,ringing sirens everyone ran towards the bus but no one was able to catch the bus the bus took off.
Rico started running he didn't had anything with him, everything he had was in the bus he could hear the gunshots,he ran towards the mountains/hills and started climbing after 2 hours of climbing running he made it in the U.S. he was extremely dehydrated/exhausted,he read a sign highway that said"welcome to phoenix Arizona".
Yeah I have a job now!!!
After hours of walking he reaches in a small town/village where there was foster care centers, pantry's, soup kitchens etc, there he meets a man who was a spanish speaker as well he told everything to him,he promised that he will take care of him but he will have to work/help him in cotton picking, and in different types of fields according to seasons and he will pay him $300 a week when Rico heard that he was crying because he was happy.
Rico calls his mom to tell her that After 3 months of working I made $3,600,he goes to western union to send money back home in guatemala,he could imagine his sisters going to school, his dad able to pay for his medicines, and his mom living happily:)
My favourite part was when he got a job,it basically solved all of his problems.
Overall I like this book because,it shows how teens in some parts of the world have to go through to make living.
