William and Geoffrey decide to run a radio repair business right out of Geoffrey's bedroom. People come all the time to get their radios fixed!
In 2000, Malawi experiences a bad farming season, resulting in the lack of crops. William seems somewhat concerned but is reassured that his family was more fortunate than others were.
William notices that the price of food increases and everyone around him is starving and desperate to eat anything they can find. For the first time, William worries about how much food is left at home.
Christmas is solemn as William's family barely has anything to eat. He decides to visit his cousin, Charity. Together, they hatch a plan to find some food and boil animal skin to eat. It's hard to chew, but at least his stomach is full that night.
William discovers that he is placed in a bad secondary school that can't even afford furniture for the classrooms. Despite this, he is still happy to go to school and learn.
Because his family cannot afford the schools fees, William has no other choice but to drop out of school.
