546 B.C Ionians revolted against Persians because it was theirs first. Athenians tried to send help but Greeks were defeated.
"We should fight the Spartans"
Persians tried to defeat Athens in revenge. Athens were strong, being set up in a plananxes were able to defeat Persians because Persians had light armour and lacked training, causing them to retreat.
"Weak Spartans, they can't defeat us"
"Hey guys, up here"
After Athens defeated Persians they had no defence. Pheidippides ran 26 miles telling the city of Athens to not give up and be ready. Athens were able to defend themselves for the next battle.
'If we can destroy your city we can destroy your ships"
Xerxes had a huge army ready to invade Athens but they were very divided. None could come to an agreement.
"No just let them destroy Athens"
Xerxes's troops were blocked by Spartan and Greek troops. Xerxes's troops were held at stand still for three days until a traitor ruined the secret path.
Athens evacuated the city and fought the Persians in the channel Salamis. Xerxes naval ships were too big to turn, Greeks ships were small and could overtake the Persian ships.
