This storyboard does not have a description.
Around 750 years ago, the Maori people started to arrive in Aotearoa.
The Maori started to spread all over New Zealand to find the best area to live. Tamaki Makaurau was considered to be the best place to live.
Tamaki Makaurau was once split into different tribal areas. These tribes were called iwi, and covered all of Aotearoa
The ideal place for a village was near on a hill so that it was easier to defend against invading tribes.
But in 1769, the Europeans arrived!
There was a lot of fighting until the treaty of Waitangi was signed in 1840
