Storyboard Text

  • One of the building in the city was caught on fire. And a firetruck immediately rash to the burning building.
  • There is a fire in the building and the only open window is 20 feet above the ground. There is a bush by the edge of the ground so the firefighters will have to place the ladder 15 feet from the house. What will be the length of the ladder to reach the near open window
  • 20ft
  • So if the near open window is 20 feet off the ground, that would be our opposite. The firefighters will be placing the ladder 15 feet from the house, so that would be our adjacent. So what we are finding here is the hypotenuse.
  • 15ft
  • 20ft
  • To find the hypotenuse we will use the Pythagorean theorem. We will use the formula c^2=a^2 + b^2.
  • 15ft
  • 20ft
  • c^2=a^2 + b^2 c^2=20^2 + 15^2 c^2=400 + 225 c^2=625 c=25
  • So the length of the ladder to reach the near open window is 25ft.
  • 25ft
  • 15ft
  • 20ft
