Frederick Douglass was born a slave in the 1800s. He was separated from his mother at a very young age. He fought with slave breakers, and he vowed not to think like a slave. His mistress taught him little but she instilled him with the want of knowledge. He knew the damaging effects of slavery, corrupting of masters and dehumanizing the slaves. He was on Freelands plantation and in 1834 he was tired of being a slave he just heard crack snap crack.
Freeland was less of a cruel master. while on the plantation Douglass started a sabbath school, after the school got shut down, he continued to t them to read and teach them and instilled them with ideas of freedom.
Douglass with his fellow slaves started to plan an escape, but Douglass didn't know much about the north or even Canada. All he knew was which way was north. He made fake protections for each slave to make it look like they were free. Douglass did not want to be slave, He would rather die than be a slave. He said to himself, "Oh if I do not make it allow death to do its job."
Constables show up at freelands plantation, hearing of the escape Mr Freeland orders douglass and his friends to go to the constables during their there walk they tell each other to eat their protections with their biscuit. “Mr. Douglass” said the constables “Yes” he replied, “You and some of your fellow slaves are under arrest.” “What” Douglass replied, “For the conspiracy of running away.”
Although, they are under arrest they do not lose their hope and desire to be free. A few days ago Douglass was filled to the brim with the thought of being free but now was the utmost despair saddened by the outcome.
Douglass was fearing his punishment, The thought of death and being beat plagued him. But instead he was just sent back to Baltimore and going to learn a trade. His freedom was temporarily crushed like a bug. He was not free yet and he would not be for a while.
