  • Frederick Douglass was born a slave in the 1800s. He was separated from his mother at a very young age. He fought with slave breakers, and he vowed not to think like a slave. His mistress taught him little but she instilled him with the want of knowledge. He knew the damaging effects of slavery, corrupting of masters and dehumanizing the slaves. He was on Freelands plantation and in 1834 he was tired of being a slave he just heard crack snap crack.
  • Freeland was less of a cruel master. while on the plantation Douglass started a sabbath school, after the school got shut down, he continued to t them to read and teach them and instilled them with ideas of freedom.

He said to himself, "Oh if I do not make it allow death to do its job."
