Persphone grew up on Olympus with her mother Demeter. Her mother loved her so much that she didn't let her out of her sight. When they went to earth to look after the fields, Demeter took Persephone with her.
Hades fell in love with Persephone and wanted her to be his queen, so one day he captured Persephone. That day Persephone wandered off when she was on Earth with her mother. The ground split open and Hades took her into the Underworld. Demeter was worried and wondered where her daughter was.
Persphone longed to go back to her mother and to see the sunshine. Hades gave her jewels but, she didn't want them. There was only a pomergranet tree. The gardener of the Underworld offered some to her but, she declined his offer. Demeter was searching for her daughter on Earth. Nothing would grow unit she found her father.
Demeter was sad and turned into a grey old women. She met a man named Triptolemus. He told her that his brother saw his pigs disappeared into the ground and he heard screams of a scared girl. She found out that Hades kidnapped her daughter. Her sadness turned to anger.
Demeter went to Zeus and said that she would not make anything grow until Hades returned Perecphone to her. Zeus sent Hermes to get Persephone. She was happy to leave. Unfortunally, she wasn't thinking and she ate some pomergranet seeds. She had to return to the underworld.
Zeus had decided that Persephone would have to go back to the Underworld. She had to stay there for one month for each seed she ate. When Demeter and Persephone were together the earth was green. When they were apart crops wouldn't grow.
