  • Across the Atlantic ocean, Great Britain and France were at war and interfered with the U.S. trade. France and Britain both tried to stop the others from trading with the U.S. was neutral
  • The Embargo Act
  • British desperately needed sailors for their war. Impressed Americans and deserters. Practice people to serve in the navy.

  • British attacked Chesapeake because they wouldn't let them search their ship.

  • The act targeted Great Britain by banning imports from and exports to all foreign. Jefferson tried preventing Americans from trading to other countries
  • Native Americans were losing acres of land so they signed a treaty for them to get land they can't lose, but tension grew to renew the contract with the British
  • Rupublican congress members were called the War Hawks. They supported to increase in military spendings and were driven by a hunger for land. The western wanted the fertile forest
