  • Even though this story ended happily many others wouldn't have. This is why  we need to learn from our historical mistakes and make sure we don't do them again.
  • Approximately 1 million people died during the potato famine.
  • Here are some facts about the potato famine1.  In 1845 about half of the potato crops were destroyed and in 1846 all crop were destroyed2. The average Irish worker in the 1800's ate about 4.5 kg's of potatoes a day.3.  About two fifths of Ireland solely relied on potatoes for food.
